2010 finds Alex Lloyd competing for Dale Coyne Racing.Last year Lloyd competed in 2 races in the IndyCar series (for Chip Ganassi Racing/Sam Schmidt Motorsports in Indianapolis 500 and for Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing at Homestead) and earned his first IZOD IndyCar Series five-five start (firth) and top-10 finish (eighth) at Homestead. Lloyd got the name “Pink Lloyd” due to the pink car and firesuit sponsorship by HER energy drink. The previous year, Alex competed in his first Indy 500, under an alliance between Rahal Letterman Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing.
Alex Lloyd's career began in go-karts. As race victories and championships followed, he began to rise up the racing ladder. At the same time, he also built a friendship with a rival racer, Lewis Hamilton. While Hamilton was targeted for a future in Formula 1, Lloyd sought success in the United States.
He joined the Indy Pro Series in 2006 after his family sold their home in order to fund a few races and quickly made the investment pay off, winning two races his rookie season before breaking through with a record-setting season in 2007. He is the only driver to win on the oval and road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He would go on to win the Indy Pro Series championship that year.
His early career consisted of karting, winning the British Open karting championship and the Inter-Nations Challenge pre-final and grand final. He would go on to compete in Formula Renault UK, and Euro F3000, and Italian F3000. Alex and his wife Samantha have two daughters, including Bethany, who was due right around the Indy 500 in 2009, which added a touch of drama to “Pink Lloyd”; She was born June 2nd.
